Job Description
Confirms compliance with applicable coding guidelines for coding systems. Reviews and audits medical records to verify the accuracy and completeness of coding. Analyzes clinical documentation to prevent denials and audits from insurance carriers. Educates and trains medical coders and healthcare providers on proper coding techniques, compliance standards, and regulatory changes. Develops and implements coding policies and procedures to minimize compliance... risk and enhance the integrity of the coding process. Collaborates with the billing department to resolve coding discrepancies and to facilitate accurate and timely reimbursement for services rendered. Keeps abreast of changes in coding standards, government regulations, and third-party payer policies to ensure ongoing compliance. Prepares and presents reports on audit findings, compliance initiatives, and the status of coding accuracy to management and relevant committees. Responds to inquiries from healthcare providers and coding staff regarding complex coding scenarios and provides expert guidance. Participates in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive compliance program that includes risk assessment, monitoring, and corrective action plans. Acts as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies during compliance reviews and investigations. Manages the coding compliance monitoring systems and utilizes software tools to streamline the audit process. Facilitates continuous quality improvement in coding practices through feedback, updated training modules, and performance monitoring. Advises on the impact of coding changes and assists in strategizing for optimal financial outcomes. Ensures the confidentiality and security of medical records and patient information in compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws.
